The second day began with a trip to the Government Accountability Office (GAO). Simply put, this entity is in charge of performance audits of the federal government. After the GAO, we went to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). There we heard from a number of speakers, including one of the five board members, which was a great privilege. From the PCAOB, we headed to the AmeriCorps, Corporation for National and Community Service. There we heard all about the VISTAS program, which has a focus on inserting people into low-income communities to grow the charitable organizations in the area. The day was very educational, as we got to see people with accounting backgrounds using their profession for all different types of work.
